ABOUT THE BOOK
She was born Florence Joan Martin in Warren, Idaho, May 17, 1917. She was the middle of three girls, loved to gamble with every aspect of life, searching for that ultimate high. She discovered alcohol at a very early age, and it became her cure all for many years. In 1960, at the age of 42, alcohol brought her to her knees. A golfing buddy led her to Alcoholics Anonymous where she became willing to go to any length to live.

Continuing to search for the ultimate high, she studied day and night "eating her spiritual books", as she would say. Given the prognoses that she had 6 months to live, Flobird was led to Imperial Beach, California where she awoke to the spirit of love within herself and spent the next 18 years of her life ignoring the doctors prognoses, traveling the world, "following her heart", spreading her message of love to all who would listen, and helping her "birds with broken wings" learn to fly again.

Though Flobird has been dead since July of 1978, she lives on in the hearts of others through the pages in this book. Her unique gift of love is expressed through her own words as she shares through her letter tapes to her birds that are scattered far and wide.

QUOTES FROM FLOBIRD:

The Divine gift of Love was given me, and it flowed out of me so much that people ran from me ‘cause I just loved ‘em so much. I went through this thing of going to the bars saying, "Hey, you don’t have to suffer any more. Come on with me." I’d talk about the seagulls and the pelicans, and that’s when I became a seagull. That’s when they started calling me Flobird.

++++

I was talking at a jail one night, and there were about 80 birds there. I was brand new from my spiritual awakening. I was talking about "be like the birds in the air, they neither sow nor reap nor gather in the barn, ‘cause they KNOW their heavenly Father feeds them." After my pitch the jail psychiatrist came up to me and said, "Do you REALLY think you’re a seagull?" He had that look in his eye.

++++

I started living in the tents with the hippies in Hawaii in 1967-68. Many of them would walk into the open meetings and be high on acid, and they’d say, "I’m God." I’d say, "Well, hi God. Sit down. Let’s talk. Now, if you think you’re God, go hold the ocean back with your hands, and…can you love?"

BOOK REVIEW
Cherie Johnson's striking book about the life of her mother is much more than a daughter's loving tribute. It is an insightful, in-depth look into one of the most unusual lives ever lived on this planet. Flobird was much more than one-of-a-kind. She was one unlike all other kinds we have ever heard or read about. My acquaintance with Cherie began when I read a brief article she wrote about Flobird's life for Science of Mind Magazine. It instantly became essential that I know the author better and find out more about her unbelievable mother. When she left Hawaii and came back to the continental states for a visit, I arranged to meet her. That visit and an editorial review of her Flobird manuscript convinced me that Flobird is real.

Trying to write about a person so rare and unusual runs the risk of disbelief. We have trouble believing people so unlike us can exist. We have so many tidy little mental filing nooks for people that we are unprepared for a Flobird. For that matter, we are unprepared for a Cherie. Those who can see the splendor of a life like Flobird's are a rarity. She not only saw that splendor, she has been able to transform her own life through accessing the awesome spiritual energy that powered Flobird. She lives the same spiritual principles and possesses an uncanny ability to transmit them to others. I have decided this skill comes from a deep knowing of the truths behind the energy. All who read this book will never be the same. They will forever know there are  dimensions of consciousness beyond anything they have lived or seen. They will know it is possible for us to live this Earth-life as spiritual beings.
